The Guidebooks are the starting point for new Data Bank users, and in addition, an essential reference for returning users. Whether you are looking for general information or answers to specific questions, the Guidebooks can inform you on important topics such as eligibility, querying and reporting, and the dispute process.
Note: The NPDB and HIPDB Guidebooks refer to legislation, regulations, and procedures that previously governed the Data Banks, prior to the implementation of the NPDB and HIPDB merger on May 6, 2013.
The Guidebooks serve as a point of reference and do not reflect the final regulations implementing Section 6403 of the Affordable Care Act of 2010, Public Law 111-148, which eliminated the duplication between NPDB and HIPDB.
A new, expanded NPDB Guidebook will be published soon. Please also refer to the NPDB Final Rule for all Data Bank policy guidance.
